Truly exquisite this rare, museum quality Muir is both very rare and very beautiful. Made from a deep chocolate, soft leather that is beautifully cut. It is a rare example of the work that Jean Muir was doing in suede and leathers and still feels relevant and fresh. The cut is very sexy with a halter type neckline that scoops in the front and back and is cut to leave the shoulders bare. I love the rick rack cut edging of a silver snakeskin that is top stitched into place and serves as edging at the arms, hem and on the partially attached tie belt. It really pops against the chocolate and gives the piece s a sophisticated bit of glitz. The back holds a bit of a surprise - the dress closes down the back with a series of buttons and she chose to use her signature flowers as a finish but a rhinestone encrusted version! This bit of sparkle is the perfect finish . The cut is simple and chic with a tie at the waist in matching leather - I wrapped it and tied it at the front but you could easily tie it at the back if you prefer the front kept in a more simple form. The skirt flares out to a slight A-line and has a scooped finish on each side seam. Very seventies and very rare. Excellent, museum quality condition
Unlined and buttons down the back. It has been cleaned by a leather specialist. Marked a UK vintage 10. Hidden pockets.
The 1972 photo shows a similar dress and similar examples are held in several museum collections.
